Beauty Parlor

Overheard whilst getting my hairs cut -

client: What's going on with Michelle?

hairdresser: Oh my gawd - you won't believe it!

client: What!?

hairdresser: You are gonna poop your pants!

Fortune: Don't stop now!

Where Is My Mind

I gave two weeks notice at the non-profit yesterday. They were disappointed. I had to take the other job I was offered - it pays better and I believe it to be a better environment (and a whole lot more creative). I was much conflicted about the switch, but ultimately I had to do what was best for me. Yeah. So. Now I wait.

Fortune: Keep up the good work. You will be rewarded.

Bloody Buggers

Seriously.
Can you see those 4 dots in front of the seat cushion? Those are mosquitoes hovering outside my door. The photo doesn't even show 'em all - there are 10 or so out there. Gasp! I hate mosquitoes because they love to suck my blood. (I'm pausing to scratch 1 of the many bites my epidermis is currently sporting.) I can't believe they are waiting out there for me. I'm scared. It's like zombies or something. I'm really scared. Honestly, I am more afraid of being covered in ugly, itchy, big, red welts than EEE. If I was more afraid of EEE, I'd be the first one on the phone with the vet:

vet: Your horse's name is 'Z'?
me: Um, no - that's me. I'm really tired of smothering myself in Deet, which the mosquitoes seem to be becoming more and more immune to.
vet: Ma'am, we cannot give you the EEE vaccination. It's for horses only.
me: Yeah, but what if I pack on a few pounds and grow a few hands? ...and clomp around in some platform shoes..?

What I don't understand is why the bites have to get so swollen and itchy.

Fortune: Your efforts will be worthwhile.

The End of the Weekend

Last week was a busy, short week. Work was busy (is a non-profit ever not busy?) with month end plus first-of-month craziness. After work was spent working in the garden beds - pulling weeds, crab grass, some of the violets (they'll come back, I think), putting down compost, and finally planting new plants. One more flower bed left. Special thanks, again, to special friend Alecia who has spent time (and money) on this for me. What a pal.
Sigh.
I hate that I'm so broke. Non-profiting is tough. It's hard to be a single home-owner and have a low income. I love that I'm busy - in almost 20 years working in accounting/bookkeeping this is the first job I've had where I am not bored. I am not looking for more work to do. I'm busy. But I hate that I'm not able to put any money into savings not to mention I'm taking money out of savings to pay some of my bills. It's a bit stressful. It's why part of last week was spent interviewing for other jobs. One seems ideal/promising. But I worry it won't keep me busy.
Not worth worrying about until they make an offer.

Fortune: Simplicity of character is the natural result of profound thought.
